MIDLAND, Michigan – XALT Energy has become the first North American manufacturer of Lithium Titanium Oxide (LTO) battery cells to be certified under China’s new GB/T quality control standard.

The new and more stringent standards are issued by the Standards Administration of China and replace the QC/T standard, under which XALT Energy’s LTO cells were previously certified. Certification testing was performed entirely in China by China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC), an independent third-party laboratory qualified by the Chinese government. XALT Energy’s LTO cells were confirmed to meet the requirements of all three relevant standards, GB/T 31484-2015, 31485-2015 and 31486-2015. XALT’s 60 ampere-hour LTO cell is the largest cell in the world to have been certified to these standards.

MIDLAND, Mich. – XALT Energy has launched a revolutionary high-performance Lithium Titanium Oxide (LTO) cell that has achieved better cycle life performance over a wider range of operating conditions than any lithium ion cell ever built.

"These cells combine outstanding fast-charge performance, unparalleled cycle life, long calendar life and the ability to operate over wide temperature ranges,” says Subhash Dhar, XALT CEO. “The cells exhibit low, stable impedance which minimize heat generation in aggressive high-rate applications with fast charging capability. It easily fits applications requiring extremely high power-to-energy ratios and where safety is critical.”

The Li-Ion LTO cells are produced in XALT’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Midland, Michigan. XALT’s flexible manufacturing facility offers a highly automated process where human hands only touch the product during final inspection before packaging.

The new cells are currently used in pure electric buses for multiple high rate charges on a daily basis.

New Flyer Industries Inc., the leading manufacturer of heavy-duty transit buses in the United States and Canada, announced the completion of testing of the Xcelsior XE40 electric bus in the Federal Transit Administration Bus Test Program at Altoona, PA. This is commonly referred to as an “Altoona Test”. The integration of the Siemens ELFA drive motor and lithium-ion battery packs from XALT Energy into the XE40 resulted in outstanding performance and no propulsion or battery issues arose throughout the entire test program.
